A typical day at Sso Yummy in Calgary Chinatown begins with food prep between a husband and wife duo who were inspired by the street food of South Korea.
Sung says his restaurant and its food are able to provide people with a sense of ‘home’. He is always pleasantly surprised when younger people come in and speak Korean. Some even became friends!
Sung and his family love Calgary. He offers a commonly used Korean phrase: “fighting” to YYC. Similar to AddOil, in Korea, “fighting” is a word of endearment; a way to demonstrate support and perseverance.
